Customs Manager

For our client, a leading multinational and global frontrunner in its industry, we are recruiting an experienced Customs Manager. In this role, you will be part of the European headquarters and oversee substantial customs operations across multiple EU countries.

As Customs Manager, you will take on a broad customs responsibility and lead the Customs Strategy Team. You will manage and drive various customs projects, ensuring full compliance with all applicable regulations. Customs projects include a.o. general customs matters, customs broker management, IT implementation, HS classification, customs valuation, refund claims and export control compliance.

You have approx. 7-11 years of relevant customs experience, obtained at a Big 4 (or comparable) organisation, the Dutch Tax Revenue or obtained as in-house Customs Specialist of an international company. You are fluent in Dutch and good in English (both spoken and in writing). Some, limited, travelling is involved (EU countries).

• Manage and oversee all customs-related activities, including documentation, compliance, and clearance processes
• Lead and mentor the Customs Strategy team
• Develop and implement strategies to minimize customs-related risks and costs
• Provide advisory on customs issues to stakeholders across the EU region with occasional travel
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure smooth customs operations
• Support the European Headquarters function
• Stay updated on customs regulations and policies to ensure compliance and optimize procedures
• Maintain and ensure internal control on customs brokers
• Perform internal audits, implement digitalization efforts
• Implement and improve customs procedures and internal controls
• Collaborate with R&D, supply chain and finance teams to ensure technical accuracy
• Ensure correct HS classification and origin in customs audits or AEO reviews
• Prepare KPI dashboards and compliance reports
• Monitor legal developments on classification

• Relevant degree in Indirect Tax/Customs or Supply Chain Management
• Approx 7-11 years of experience in customs management or related area, including managerial experience
• Proficiency in relevant customs software, ERP systems and software implementation
• Fluent in Dutch and good in English, both spoken and in writing
• Analytical mindset and high attention to detail
• Clear communicator who can translate technical details into practical solutions
• Proactive, organized, hands-on
• Team-oriented and capable of building strong stakeholder relationships
• Experience with software implementation and solutions is a plus
