The European Customs Team, located in the Netherlands, functions as a logistics and financial control tower within the region. The team plays a key role in shaping and supporting the Central European logistics and supply chain strategy, providing advisory services, driving innovation, and ensuring effective monitoring.
For our client, based in the Rotterdam/The Hague area, we are currently recruiting a Customs Classification Specialist to join the European Customs Team.
This is an exciting opportunity within a dynamic, international, and fast-paced environment. The role is ideally suited for a professional with hands-on experience in customs classification, gained at a tax consultancy firm (e.g., a Big 4 or equivalent), a multinational corporation, or the Dutch Tax Administration. You speak both Dutch and English, and you are pragmatic, accurate, and proactive.

Main tasks Customs Classification Specialist
• Determine and maintain correct HS codes for goods across EU markets.
• Conduct binding tariff information (BTI) applications where applicable.
• Monitor updates to CN/TARIC codes and reflect changes in internal systems.
• Implement and support customs policies
Customs Processes & Advisory
• Implement and improve classification procedures and internal controls.
• Collaborate with R&D, supply chain and finance teams to ensure technical accuracy.
• Act as internal expert on classification and origin in customs audits or AEO reviews.
• Support the European Headquarters function.
• Provide advisory on customs issues to stakeholders across the EU region with occasional travel.
Data & Systems Integration
• Maintain HS classification data within ERP and customs management systems.
• Support digitalization efforts using AI tooling.
• Liaise with customs brokers to ensure consistent external classification.
Monitoring & Reporting
• Prepare KPI dashboards and compliance reports.
• Monitor legal developments on classification (e.g. CN and WCO updates, EU Implementing Regulations).
Profile Customs Classification Specialist
- Relevant hands-on experience with EU HS classification in an international context.
- Strong knowledge of CN/TARIC structure, explanatory notes, and classification rules.
- Experience with customs ERP and classification databases.
- You speak Dutch and English.
- Analytical mindset and high attention to detail.
- Clear communicator who can translate technical details into practical solutions.
